Lewis N. Clark Automatic Travel Umbrella

Full-size umbrella folds into a compact 10.25in. Canopy automatically opens and closes at the touch of a button

Review by Damien

I needed an umbrella that was compact enough to carry around and would not break after first use. I've only had to use it a couple times, but it has held up just fine. I was really impressed at the automatic open and close feature on such a small umbrella. Don't expect this umbrella to be a large; it's compact and made for only one person use. If you're looking for a very functional, compact umbrella I'd definitely recommend this one.

Pros:
Keeps me dry, of course.
This umbrella really does live up to it's claims of wind resistance; I tried more than once to get it to flip inside out, and nothing short of an exaggerated wind tunnel effect could flip it.
The umbrella almost seems to hover in moderate winds, rarely would it pull back, but rather it stays up and very comfortable in your hand.
Heavy winds seem to barely move the wind flaps, it's just very well designed.
The umbrella snaps open faster than any umbrella I've ever seen.
Comes with a sleeve.

Cons:
The only issue I really had with the umbrella is that the release button began to come out, and though it wasn't apparent for a long time how to fix it, the umbrella would snap open as soon as I opened the two straps. I fixed this by using superglue to hold the lever into the shaft.

Other thoughts/neutral: Though I would have liked for the umbrella to have been a solid color, the embroidery being very colorful, I don't find it to detract enough from my impression of the umbrella to consider it a negative.

I've had this umbrella for 5 years now.

As an umbrella to use while raining:
* Yes, this umbrella provides nice protection.
* Even though Chicago is dubbed as the "Windy City" for political reasons, it really can get windy here. The open umbrella has never inverted on me.

As for the product when it's not in use during the rain:
* In my first week of owning it, I dropped it on the sidewalk once, and the wooden handle got dinged and chipped.
* The silver metal rods have all come out of the black end caps, so I've had to superglue them back into place.
* It's also a heavy and bulky umbrella. I cannot believe how much weight it adds to my work bag. I can barely zip it into my Longchamp Le Pliage.

Totes Titanium Auto-Open/Close Umbrella

This is the perfect compact umbrealla. It says on the box that it's for men so when it came in the mail my husband almost took it assuming it was for him. We both pondered what about the umbrella made it for men specifically -- was the handgrip larger? I still don't know but here are the features about it that are different from my standard totes umbrella:
1. The grip is in a softer platic that's easier to hold onto if your hands are wet. Nice upgrage.
2. The wrist loop is an elasticised band as opposed to a knit, which I find to be a bit more comfortable.
3. The band to wrap around the umbrella to keep it closed is substantially wider which is easier to use
4. It push button opens and closes. The push button close is a nice feature if it ends up being particularly gusty and I need to close my umbrella in a hurry.

The umbrella is a great size. It's small enough and light weight enough to fit easily in my purse. The canopy is the perfect size -- large enough to comfortably keep me dry but small enough to comfortably walk down a busy city street with it too. It's also very durable. I've used it in the intense wind that blows off the Boston Harbor creating wind tunnels between the tall buildings and it has held up admirably. I can't think of anything I'd change about it.

Very small and compact when close, fit perfectly inside a small student backpack, yet open to a 56' umbrella - two people can easily fit inside
The materials are high quality even when compared to other band names such as London-Fog  very light, strong aluminum body, good auto open/close mechanism, and big and solid overall - perfect for a New York winter
